Abstract
Existing products are analysed in order to develop the functionality of new products. This is done using extensive manual methods, although digitally processable product models, such as the CAD model, can be used as input for the analysis. To reduce the effort for analysing products functionality, this publication is investigating whether functional relations can be automatically retrieved from CAD models. This is done by implementing a working prototype for functional relations retrieval. All corresponding algorithms are evaluated using a gearbox CAD model with 27 components.
