Abstract
Flexibility is becoming increasingly important for companies to be able to react to the volatile environment. The automotive industry is particularly affected by this, due to the long time to market of vehicles and their increasing integration into cyber-physical systems. Automobile manufacturers must increase their responsiveness to product changes in product development and production. This paper compares two different vehicle product structures and presents an evaluation scheme for flexibility applied to the product structure with consideration of the corresponding production system.
